Classification societies
Currently the following classification societies are authorized by the Maritime Authority Curaçao:
- American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
- Lloyd’s Register of Shipping (LR)
- Det Norske Veritas GL (DNV-GL)
- Nippon KaijiKyokai (NKK)
- Registro Italiano Navale (RINA)
- Bureau Veritas (BV)
Delegation of authority
The Kingdom recognizes only class societies that are AIACS member and endorsed by the European Maritime Safety Agency.
Curaçao has mandate contracts with all Kingdom recognizes organizations:
- American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
- Lloyd’s Register of Shipping (LR)
- Det Norske Veritas GL (DNV-GL)
- Nippon KaijiKyokai (NKK)
- Registro Italiano Navale (RINA)
- Bureau Veritas (BV)
The contracts stipulate that safety inspections of SOLAS-vessels is mandated to the Recognized Organizations (RO). For these vessels, the RO’s are responsible for compliance and for issuing certificates on behalf of flag state. Non-SOLAS vessels are not included in the mandate contracts yet. MAC, however, issues the certificates for these vessels. MAC is currently implementing a risk-based auditing and supervision program to monitor the execution of these mandate contracts by the RO’s.
